We are Changing

We are Changing (As of 1st August 2022)

The Mortlake Family Medical Practice opened in 2013 as a Bulk Billing Practice. Since that date, it has continued to service the community, fee-free with no patient out-of-pocket expense.

For many years, Medicare rebates have not kept pace with the rising costs associated with delivering high quality General Practice services such as reception staff, qualified nursing staff, medical equipment, treatment room consumables and utilities (water & electricity).

It is no longer sustainable for our practice to meet the running costs without introducing a fee for service.

Commencing 1st August 2022, we will introduce Private Billing to become a Mixed Billing practice.  The gap will be $30. There will be a cap set on the number of consultations that we will privately charge you in a calendar year (January to December). This cap has been currently been set at 10. If you have been billed for 10 consultations, we will bulk bill the rest of your visits for that year.

‘Private’ Billing means you will pay the GP consultation fee in full. You will then receive the relevant patient rebate from Medicare for the service you have received, subsidising part of the fee you were charged.

Please understand this has not been an easy decision and we understand it is also difficult for our patients. We remind you this has been a necessary decision.

We will continue to bulk bill appointments for

    • Children aged 15 and under
    • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples
    • Concession Card Holders (e.g. Health Care Card, Commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card, Pension Concession Card)
    • All Department of Veteran’s Affairs Card Holders

We will bulk bill specific appointments for

    • GP Management Plans (care plans), reviews and assessments
    • Appointments with the nurse (blood tests, flu shots, covid shots)

We take this opportunity to thank you for your understanding and support. We trust you will continue to value the high level of quality care we provide to all who enter our Practice.

Yours sincerely

Mortlake Family Medical Practice
